The Exercises on The Diane Hacker Site

The most feeling on Diane Hacker Site exercises is helpful.

Most of those exercises I have done the seem questions

before, however, for some others I need to find which

grammar part it talks about.

For instance, the Parallelism questions. This exercise

helped me to understand the usage of parallelism structure

and how to write a correct sentence contained parallelism. In

addition, for the Mixed constructions problems which help

me to know that the sentence would be illogical if I add

some unnecessary words and assure that the I should not

add some unnecessary words in the sentence. Moreover,

here have one part of question i really unforgettable which

are Shifts: tense and Shifts. They helped me to know that the

pronoun and the verb in the sentence must in the same

tense and the verbs in the sentence must in the same tense.

Actually, I am always doing wrong on this like writing

papers. All in all, this exercises help me review the grammar

and help me to learn more information to correct the

inaccuracy. It helps me a lot.

Verb Tense

I would like to talk about the verb tense in this post. As an international student, it was very difficult for me understand and not make mistakes in writings. Sometimes, when I was writing something, I need to stop and ask myself "Do I use the correct verb tense?" So, I chose this topic to make a better understanding of the verb tense. After I studied this topic, I really benefit from it.

Verb Tense

1. Present Tense

Example: This man is very tall.

2. Past Tense
(Most past tense verbs end in -ed The irregular verbs have special past tense forms which must be memorized.)
Example: I was so confused about that problem.

3. Future Tense
(This tense is formed by using will/shall with the simple form of the verb. The future tense can also be expressed by using amis, or are with going to.We can also use the present tense form with an adverb or adverbial phrase to show future time.)
Example: I will be there in a minute.

4. Present Progressive Tense
(This tense is formed by using am/is/are with the verb form ending in -ing.)
Example: I am doing my homework.

5. Past Progressive Tense
(This tense is formed by using was/were with the verb form ending in-ing.)
Example: My mother came back home when I was doing my homework last night.

6. Future Progressive Tense
(This tense is formed by using will be or shall be with the verb form ending in -ing.)
Example: He will be giving a speech in our university.

7. Present Perfect Tense
(This tense is formed by using has/have with the past participle of the verb. Most past participles end in -ed. Irregular verbs have special past participles that must be memorized.)
Example: I have finished my work today.

8. Past Perfect Tense
( This tense is formed by using had with the past participle of the verb.)
Example: By the time my mom came back home, I had finished my work.

9. Future Perfect Tense
(This tense is formed by using will have with the past participle of the verb.)
Example: By the time he arrives here, I will have completed the forms.

10. Present Perfect Progressive
(This tense is formed by using has/have been and the present participle of the verb).
Example: They have been to America many times.

11. Past Perfect Progressive
(This tense is formed by using had been and the present perfect of the verb. )
Example: Before my father came back home, I had been practicing the piano all the time.

A story in a box

When I was a boy, I like to collect various kinds of souvenirs. Now, I am a college boy and it is still one of my hobbies. I am so interesting in them so if I notice them, I will try my best to learn the story behind them. I still remember a funny thing that happened when I was in secondary school.
I remember I was using my ruler to solving math problems in the classroom. I was so tired that I decided to take a rest. At that time, I noticed a girl with blond hair who sat beside was playing a model of a farm. This model is so beautiful and so as the girl. So, I started to talk to her and she was glad to talk to me,too. I asked her where was this model from. She said it was from Spanish because her father was working in a factory in Spanish and this is a souvenir her father gave her when he came back. Then I asked her if she likes to collect souvenirs as well and she said yes without hesitation. Then, I took out a collection of coins of the republic of Singapore. I got it when I traveled to Singapore. Once I took it out, she seemed very interested in this. She asked me how I get it and I answered her. That day, we talked a lot about the souvenirs from different countries. We were so happy and I knew a lot of amazing things about souvenirs through the conversation. Since then, every time I got a new souvenir, I would tell her immediately and so did she. I knew so many things from her such as a blanket and a exquisite stamp from China, a glass pot from an island called Gozo and a carving of a woman's head. What's more, she gave me some chestnuts which were from China and I would never forget that flavor. It really widen my horizons. Also, I show her my collections such as a model of a native American canoe, a sculpture of a Peruvian, a sculpture of a Africa woman and a leather wallet from Mongolia. Gradually, we started dating and we found that we all like each other. Eventually, she became my girlfriend.
Now, in addition to attend school, me and my girlfriend like to travel around the world during the break and get sorts of souvenirs from each country. It is so happy to be with her and travel with her. Collecting souvenirs is really a fantastic thing in my life.
